Faculty mission, vision and values

Our academic and professional staff are guided by a faculty-wide commitment to ethical behaviour, openness and transparency.

Mission

We produce outstanding thinkers, teachers, scholars and leaders in the humanities, languages and social sciences who take their commitment to creativity, innovation and collaboration onto the world stage.

Vision

We aspire to be at the global forefront of critical thinking and intellectual engagement, providing excellence in research and teaching and learning. We aim to be the leading institution in the Asia Pacific region for research and study in the humanities, languages and social sciences.

We aim to bring unparalleled excellence in research and teaching to students, industry partners and society as a whole, and to operate across disciplines at the highest levels internationally.

We aim to produce research that is at the frontiers of knowledge, of outstanding quality with strong societal impact and civic benefit, and produced through self-directed intellectual discovery as well as alignment to priority areas.

Values

We value an anti-discriminatory work and learning-environment, and respect and promote diversity in all its forms, including cultural, social and intellectual diversity.

We have a firm commitment to the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan, and work to ensure the access and participation of Indigenous Australians, as both students and staff, in the academic pursuits of the Faculty.

We value female leadership, and recognise the richness that the diversity in age, race, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, political persuasion, physical ability and background of our staff and students brings to our work environment.

We are committed to community engagement, cohort building, collegiality and collaboration and access and equity.

Our academic and professional staff are guided by a faculty-wide commitment to ethical behaviour, openness and transparency. Academic freedom guides our research and teaching.
