Leave of Absence
Students who are currently enrolled in a course but wish to take time off may apply for leave of absence. All coursework students are eligible for two semesters leave from their degree. Research Masters students are eligible for 12 months leave during the course of their candidature.
Undergraduate students may apply for leave via the Student Information System (SIS). Postgraduate students require department approval in order to take leave, therefore are required to complete the hard copy of the form, available from the Arts Student Centre, Old Arts Building.
Leave of absence can only be granted for international students in exceptional circumstances and can only be granted for 6 months (one semester). Before you apply for leave, you should discuss your situation with an international student adviser, as taking leave may affect your student visa.
- The maximum allowance for Leave of Absence is two semesters (one semester for Certificate courses). Requests for extra leave must be submitted in writing, with supporting documentation, to the Director, Academic Programs (Undergraduate students) or the Director, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (Postgraduate students).
- Leave of Absence will not be approved for students intending to undertake tertiary studies elsewhere.
- Refunds for students in fee-paying courses: You may be eligible for a (partial) refund of course fees as set out in the booklet Arrangements Relating to the Payment of Student Fees, available from the Student Administration Office, First floor, Raymond Priestly Building
- Refunds for students in HECS courses: You may be eligible for a (partial) refund of one or more of the following:
- Amenities and Services Fee
- HECS - up-front and partial payments.
