The highly competitive Fellowship program is the first of its kind in Australia, which sees a partnership between Westpac and the Fellow’s respective University to provide financial and career development for emerging researchers. The University of Melbourne will cover the costs associated with Dr Bice’s research and professional development.

Dr Bice, chosen for her innovation, leadership, passion and commitment to her work, said the Fellowship will advance her research into corporate social responsibility and sustainability.  “I am currently investigating the governance of Australian energy and water resources and developing policy solutions with sustainability in mind,” said Dr Bice.

Professor Julie Willis, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Capability) said this award recognised the success of Melbourne School of Government research and the impact it makes on the wider community.  “We are tremendously pleased that Dr Sara Bice has been chosen for this award. This Fellowship will help facilitate world class research and give an early career researcher support to continue her work,” said Prof Willis.

“The co-creation of this Fellowship with our University partners is a great example of industry and education working together towards addressing the opportunities and challenges facing Australia,” said Susan Bannigan, CEO of the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation.

The Fellowship will be awarded annually, underlying the University’s strong engagement focus and commitment to working with industry partners.
