World-first Journalism MOOC to run its second year
The Centre for Advancing Journalism is excited to announce that 'Journalism Skills for Engaged Citizens' will run again this year, following the success of its launch last year.
The FREE Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is the first journalism MOOC to be offered on Coursera. The course uses the Centre for Advancing Journalism's fictional local government Newstown to teach students the basics of news writing, interviewing skills, sources and how to use legal rights to access public information.
The course is designed for 'citizen journalists' - people who are now using new media to publish news, views and information. It requires no background other than an interest in journalism.
Last year's course attracted more than 10,000 students from 164 countries, and this year the course aims to continue empowering engaged citizens and citizen journalists.
The Instructors for the course will be Assoc. Professor Margaret Simons and Dr Denis Muller. For more information and to register, visit the Coursera Journalism Skills for Engaged Citizens web page.
