RUPC seminar with Associate Professor Seth Giddings - Mind, Media and Materiality in the Playable City
Wednesday, May 11, 2016 14:00 - 16:00
The Research Unit in Public Cultures (RUPC) warmly invites you to this event as part of its 2016 Seminar Series.
The session will be chaired by RUPC Member and Visiting Academic (UNSW), Dr Tom Apperley.
Recent years have seen numerous creative and experimental projects around the world that aim to intervene playfully in urban space. These range from mobile and augmented reality games, to pervasive or street games and broader projects that deploy new technologies and old game forms to bring city-dwellers together in collaborative - or playfully competitive - activities. In this presentation I will draw on my theoretical and ethnographic research on children's play, experimental street games, and the design and testing of playful media technologies to explore actual and potential relationships between space, technologies, imagination and play in everyday urban life.
