Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences
The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences offers exciting opportunities for intellectual engagement and collegiality. Our academic and professional staff foster and support cohort-building and networking between students.

Asia Institute
The Asia Institute is the University of Melbourne's key centre for studies in Asian languages and cultures. Programs include Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese languages, as well as Asian and Islamic Studies. The Asia Institute hosts the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies, the National Centre of Excellence for Islamic Studies and the Population, Migration and Multicultural Studies Network.

School of Culture and Communication
The School is a thriving centre for critical thinking in the humanities. Study areas include literary and cultural studies, art history, cinema and performance, media and communication and Australian indigenous studies. The School hosts the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions, the Australian Institute of Art History, the Australian Centre, and the Research Unit in Public Culture.

School of Historical and Philosophical Studies
The School was formed in 2011 and offers programs in History, History and Philosophy of Science, Philosophy, Classics and Archaeology. The School hosts the Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation, the Program in Jewish Culture and Society, as well as a range of other research centres and networks.

School of Languages and Linguistics
The School hosts programs in European Studies, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish. It also offers Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and English as a Second Language. The school hosts the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language, the Language Testing Research Centre, the Research Unit for Indigenous Language, and the Research Unit for Multilingualism and Cross-Cultural Communication.

The School has a team of dedicated academic and professional staff in the disciplines of Political Science, Criminology, Anthropology and Sociology. Our students move on to careers in a wide range of areas including local, state and federal government, non-governmental organisations, the media, education, justice, and further academic research.
