Honours Studies: Bachelor of Arts (Honours)

Why Choose Arts Honours at Melbourne

Overview

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is a specialised year of study for students who have achieved academic excellence in their undergraduate degree. An Honours year enables you to extend your knowledge of your area of specialisation through higher level coursework subjects and an independent research thesis under the guidance of an academic supervisor.

Course Structure

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree consists of 100 points of study in subjects at Fourth Year level. The course is available only on a full time basis.

Pure Honours usually consists of a thesis of 37.5 points and 62.5 points of coursework.

Combined Honours usually consists of a thesis of 37.5 points, 25 points of coursework in the department in which the thesis is undertaken, and 37.5 points of coursework in the combined area of study.

Prerequisite Entry Standards

Eligibility to be considered for admission to the BA (Honours) requires completion of a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne, or a cognate undergraduate degree from another institution, completed within the last five years at the minimum designated standard outlined in the University Handbook. Further requirements must be met for each individual area of specialisation. Applicants with a non-cognate degree (eg, Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts) or B Sc with Grad Dip in Arts) may be eligible to apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Arts. Quotas may be applied to the degree as a whole or to individual programs.

Please check the specific course and entry requirements for Honours in your area of study in the University Handbook:
