Single Subject Study (Community Access Program)
You can study a single subject under the guidance of world-class academics at one of Australia's oldest faculties as part of The University of Melbourne's Community Access Program (CAP), even if you have not completed previous studies.
The Faculty of Arts is committed to enhancing the intellectual and cultural life of the community through continuing education. Arts study encourages original and informed opinions and enables the development of valuable skills in research, analysis and communication across an extensive range of subjects at both beginner and advanced levels.
Single subject study via CAP can be the start of studies towards professional development, part of your pursuit for personal enrichment or a pathway to undergraduate or graduate study.
Arts education is open and inclusive. The majority of first-year subjects have no prerequisites, and many open the door to higher-level study.

Pathways
CAP may be used to gain entry into The University of Melbourne's Bachelor of Arts. The completed subjects can be used to demonstrate academic ability.
Community Access Program Assessment and Credit
If you enrol in Community Access Program as an 'assessed' student, you complete the same academic workload (essays, assignments, exams etc ...) as students who are taking the subject as part of a Bachelor degree. Upon completion of the subject, you will be entitled to an academic transcript. 'Non-assessed' students attend lectures and follow a course-specific reading program, but do not complete assessment or receive an official transcript.
If you undertake subjects for assessment through Community Access Program and subsequently gain admission to a degree at the University, you may be eligible to apply for credit for the subjects you have successfully completed.
Students undertaking Community Access Program subjects to gain admission to the Bachelor of Arts degree are required to complete a minimum of 50 points, and should note that selection is based on academic merit. If a Community Access Program student is successfully admitted to the Bachelor of Arts, credit needs to be applied for at the time of enrolment. Please read the Applying for Credit information for detailed information about the granting of credit.
