The LTRC has expertise in school-based assessment in English and other languages. Government funded projects carried out in Australian schools include the evaluation of assessment tools and frameworks for speakers of English as a second or foreign language and measurement of school achievements in Asian languages.
Feasibility Study for NAATI
The National Accreditation Authority for Interpreters and Translators (NAATI) approached the LTRC with the request of conducting a feasibility study. Since then, the LTRC has been engaged in several projects.
Virtual EAL New Arrivals program
In response to challenges associated with the provision of adequate language support for newly-arrived students in geographically isolated areas, the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) in 2014/15 implemented a pilot online English as an Additional Language (EAL) program in conjunction with Western English Language School (WELS) and the Victorian School of Languages (VSL).
Australian Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL) project
The Australian Defence Force commissioned the LTRC to assess their School of Language's curriculum.
