Gandioli Fumagalli Milan Scholarship

The scholarship provides the successful candidate of the University with financial assistance to travel to Milan, Italy, to undertake a defined research project with a recognised cultural organisation/s in Milan by generous benefaction of the Annemarie and Arturo Gandioli Fumagalli Foundation. (For example, these cultural organisations may include the Poldi Pezzoli, Spazio Fitzcarraldo, Palazzo Bagatti-Valsecchi, Pinacoteca di Brera, the Ambrosiana Library, etc.)

The research project may be in regards to a particular institution or collection or with a program that is associated with a recognised cultural organisation such as a museum, art gallery, major research orientated library, university, arts or research institute, etc.

The internship aims to provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to gain practical experience of museology and familiarity with an important cultural collection. The successful candidate will undertake a short-term project in a creative international atmosphere and acquaint themselves with the life and culture of Milan.

Applicants can only apply online for this scholarship.

You must supply the following documents to support your application and can upload these into the electronic application form:

  1. Current curriculum vitae,
  2. Details of their field of study/expertise (no more than one page),        
  3. Details of any other financial support received, e.g. scholarships, grants, departmental funding (do not attach confirmation letters)
  4. All academic transcripts
  5. A statement confirming candidature for postgraduate qualification currently underway.
  6. Proposed topic of the short-term research project to be undertaken at or has a relationship with the cultural organisation. 
  7. Confirmation of acceptance of the terms and conditions of the scholarship.
  8. Letter/email of support from the supervisor including merit of the candidate,
  9. Expected benefits from the scholarship to student’s postgraduate qualification,
  10. University department’s intention to
  11. a) facilitate the candidate’s introduction to relevant staff at the Cultural Organisation/s and

    b) to organise a departmental seminar within three months of the candidate’s return from the scholarship.

The judges' decision will be final and the University reserves the right not to award the prize in the event it is considered that no work of sufficient merit has been submitted. Winning applicants please note the University of Melbourne reserves the right to publish the name of the winning applicant on its websites and other University of Melbourne publications.
