Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Editing Internship - Journal of Australian Studies: NEW TALENTS 21C
The Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Editing Internship offers postgraduate research candidates (PhD and Master of Arts) the opportunity to work as part of an inter-university postgraduate editorial team on a special issue of the Journal of Australian Studies. The Internship enables students to develop skills in editorial work and the processes of publication production, and to develop collaborative relationships with other postgraduate research candidates across Australia.
The successful recipient of the Postgraduate Editing Internship will receive a Faculty of Arts Scholarship of $3,000.00.

The Journal of Australian Studies is a fully-refereed interdisciplinary journal which appears four times a year under the editorial direction of Professor Richard Nile at Curtin University in association with the International Australian Studies Association (InASA). Each year, Journal of Australian Studiespublishes a special issue entitled New Talents 21C, which showcases postgraduate and early career research and writing in the Humanities and Social Sciences on Australian topics. The duties associated with the Postgraduate Editing Internship are managed in stages, spanning August to December of each year. The three postgraduate co-editors will assume editorial responsibility for the New Talents 21C issue. Tasks will include:
By November, the co-editors will be involved in the detailed final editing and preparation of the volume for publication. The University of Melbourne and the University of Queensland editors will be required to join the editorial and production team at Curtin University for a period of at least one week (and up to four weeks), where they will receive mentoring in relation to publication production. The three New Talents 21C editors will also be able to participate in a Humanities Postgraduate Conference held at Curtin University, where they will discuss their own research and meet with contributors and other postgraduates from around Australia. A final report on the Internship must be submitted to the Faculty of Arts at the conclusion of the project. |
| Eligibility and Terms of the Postgraduate Editing Internship Scholarship |
The Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Editing Internship is open to all postgraduate research candidates enrolled in the Faculty of Arts. The Committee may give preference to PhD candidates over Masters by Research candidates. PhD and Masters candidates must not be in either the first or last 6 months of their candidature at the time an application is lodged. PhD candidates must have completed the Confirmation of PhD Candidature process. Applicants are expected to be able to demonstrate academic strength in the field of Australian Studies. Students are expected to discuss their application with their supervisors, who may be called upon to provide an academic reference; and with their Head of Department, who must agree to provide Departmental matching funds for the award. As the duties of the Postgraduate Editing Internship are ongoing throughout the year, the Intern must take leave from their candidature (and, if applicable, from their scholarship) for a period of six weeks during the year, and must be available to attend Curtin University in November. |
