GCCMC Research and Graduate Studies Scheme, School of Historical and Philosophical Studies

The SHAPS' Research and Graduate Studies Scheme (RAGS) assists GCCMC Masters by Coursework candidates with the School to enrich their research and candidature. The scheme allows students to apply for assistance more than once per year, but will not be awarded more than the below amounts across the duration of their candidature. Amounts previously awarded under this fund will be taken into account.

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    What the funding covers

    Presentation of a paper

    A candidate may seek assistance with the cost of travel to either an international or national conference on the condition that they are presenting a paper related to their research topic. Applicants applying for funding for presentation at a workshop or seminar must be able to clearly demonstrate that the workshop or seminar is significant for their field of research. The Scheme does not assist candidates in attending a conference without presenting a paper.

    Thesis expenses

    Candidates not supported by a Scholarship are eligible to apply to assist with the costs of printing and binding their thesis.

    Use of specialised research materials or equipment

    The RAGS can be used to support the purchase or costs of accessing or using research materials required for successful completion where they are not available through the University's own facilities.

  • Application process

    Only submit the RAGS application form, when applying for funding, to the School Office. The RAGS form must include a full endorsement from your supervisor who has confirmed that you have already gained approval via the following:

    1. A student research project agreement
    2. Registration of your travel with the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Science, Faculty of Arts' by completing an Internship and Placement Risk form: P1 for within the Melbourne Metropolitan area and P2 for outside Melbourne
    3. Registration of your online travel with the Insurance Office, for travelling beyond 50 km from Melbourne GPO, interstate or internationally. The coordinator will need to approve this form before you are covered. For more information please see the Students Travel Insurance web page

    All applications for RAGS must be submitted no later than 30 October each year to shaps-info@unimelb.edu.au.

    Students going overseas only

    The University of Melbourne offers a wide range of scholarships to support students to study overseas.
