History PhD candidate Shan Windscript awarded prize

History PhD candidate Shan Windscript was awarded first prize in the New Zealand Asian Studies Society (NZASIA) Conference Best Postgraduate Essays competition. Shan won the prize for her paper '“How to Write a Diary”: Guidebooks and the Making of Socialist Subjects in Mao’s New China’, which she presented at the 22nd New Zealand Asian Studies Society (NZASIA) International Conference, at the University of Otago in Dunedin.
Shan Windscript is a 3rd-year PhD student in History, researching the cultural and political history of diary writing in Mao-era China.
