Crucial Conversations Lecture Series: "An Indigenous Welcome for Asylum Seekers"

Description

How can we think about asylum seekers on indigenous land? Who can welcome? Who can exclude?

This 2011 forum engaged in conversations on the current policies toward asylum seekers and the history of treatment of indigenous people in Australia. We ask how these practices and policies speak to questions of sovereignty, ethics and hospitality.

With Dr Tony Birch (The University of Melbourne), Professor Ghassan Hage (The University of Melbourne), Mr Ray Jackson (President, Indigenous Social Justice Association) and Assoc. Professor Joseph Pugliese (Macquarie University). Facilitated by Dr Juliet Rogers and Assoc. Professor Tamara Kohn.
