Medieval and Renaissance Ensemble Viola da gamba, directors: John Weretka, Ruth Wilkinson
Join the Medieval and Renaissance Ensemble as they explore the life and work of Giaches de Wert. Born in obscurity in Flanders, de Wert developed a life-long connection with the music-loving Gonzaga and Este families and served as the composer of the ducal chapel in Counterreformation Mantua. The programme features sacred works from the chapel, a performance of his viol consort works, newly edited from Vatican Library sources, as well as some of his powerful, dramatic madrigals, the direct forebears of Monteverdi's.
