Visit from Professor Gareth Evans

Professor the Honourable Gareth Evans, Former Foreign Minister and Chancellor of the Australian National University, presented the first seminar of the Asia Institute's inaugural Distinguished Speakers Series on Korean Studies.

On Thursday 12 April 2018, Dr Jay Song, Korea Foundation Senior Lecturer in Korean Studies, hosted former Foreign Minister and ANU Chancellor, Professor the Honourable Gareth Evans, for the inaugural Distinguished Speakers Series on Korean Studies, entitled “Australia, the two Koreas and Asian regional security”. Professor Evans and Dr Song explored past and present security developments in the region, and how to reduce tension, build confidence and avoid conflict on the Korean Peninsula. The event was attended by around 100 people. A private dinner was held afterwards at University House with the current Director of the Asia Institute, Professor Pookong Kee; incoming Director, Professor Vedi Hadiz; and the South Korean Consul-General, Mr Sunghyo Kim.
