The Faculty of Arts is proud to be the first Australian international hub of the Being Human festival.
Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy, the Being Human Festival is the first and only national festival of the humanities in the UK.
The Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne is delighted to become the first Australian international hub of the Being Human Festival and so share the challenge of encouraging creative debate and discussion on ‘Origins and Endings’ in 2018.
Arts at Melbourne has a proud history of supporting the humanities and a commitment to innovative research, teaching and outreach. The humanities are disciplines that sit at the heart of our University but also connect us to our broader communities as we recognise the society-wide impulse to celebrate and debate what it means to be human.
Imagination and creativity, critical thinking and intellectual rigour, persuasive argument and concern for others, ‘response-ability’, flexibility and reflexivity are what we prize in our students and what we aim to prompt in those who attend our events.
Sharing the vision of Being Human, we look forward to engaging the Australian public in questions of origins and endings that we see as entirely fitting to a nation of migrants that has also the longest continuous living culture in the world.
