Three: Women & Technological Innovation

Women have long been at the forefront of the creation and management of technology, transforming techniques, tools and machines, and applying these in new or unique ways or contexts. Technological innovation encompasses adaptation, progression and creativity, often demanding that we embrace different systems of knowledge in the pursuit of fixing, changing or transforming our surroundings. Technology can be liberating, and women are designing and demanding technology that enhances our lives and responds to gender differences. Women continue to advocate for equal access to technologies and ensuring that emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence do not reinforce gender stereotypes. Digital communication technologies created global communities, and, especially during Covid-19 have been essential in maintaining local communities and communities of learning. Both India and Australia are committed to creating societies that are more technologically sophisticated, innovative and entrepreneurial. Women are at the forefront of this endeavour, as both leaders and beneficiaries of technological innovation.
