Thomas Vranken’s research explores nineteenth-century literature’s relationship with automata and automation more broadly. He is currently coediting a collection of essays (Living Automata: Mechanism and Automatism in Victorian Culture) and working on a second monograph (Writing Machines: Experiments with Literary Form in the Second Industrial Revolution). His first monograph examined nineteenth-century periodical culture (Literary Experiments in Magazine Publishing: Beyond Serialisation, Routledge 2020). He completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne.
