Avant-Garde-Objects: Futurism and Dada

Melbourne Masterclass: MoMA at NGV
Tuesdays 7, 14, 21 and 28 August 2018

In partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria’s Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Faculty of Arts is proud to present a four-week masterclass exploring some of the art and ideas that have emerged in response to radical technological, social and cultural change over the past 130 years.

Consisting of over 200 key works from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) New York, MoMA at NGV traces the development of art and design from late 19th century urban and industrial transformation, through to the digital and global present. The exhibition includes some of MoMA's earliest acquisitions, including masterworks by Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Paul Cézanne, through to the Pop Art and Postmodern contributions of artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Lynda Benglis, Cindy Sherman and Keith Haring. Significant works of late 20th century and early 21st century art, including major pieces by Kara Walker, Rineke Dijkstra, Huang Yong Ping and Camille Henrot, foreground ideas that inform much contemporary art, such as those around cultural and national identity, and mobility in a globalised world.

Cost: Individual session $60^/$65, series pass $220^/$240
