The reasons for the workshop are three-fold.
First, we wish to celebrate the visit of Professor Peter Mancall, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of the Humanities at the University of Southern California, and Vice-Dean for the Humanities at the Dornsife College, USC.
Second, we hope to re-invigorate the old Melbourne inter-university network of scholars working on US History.
Third, we plan to take advantage of the visit of a number of our colleagues from interstate and elsewhere for the adjacent 'Imperial History of the American Revolution conference' to be held at The University of Melbourne from 8-10 November 2018.
We envision the day beginning with two panels made up of people who wish to give 20 minute papers about the economic aspects of their work. A keynote address from Professor Mancall at 3pm and then a roundtable of respondents will precede drinks and dinner at University House.
