No. 3 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force badge
Paint on Metal, Narrabeen RSL Collection, NSW.
Description
These pictures show the before and after treatment images of a RAAF badge, which has been painted onto a thin metal sheet. The paint layer was stuck to the glass, at all four corners (see Figure 1), resulting in extensive paint loss at all four corners.
Treatment
The surface of the badge was cleaned before the areas of loss were retouched with conservation-grade materials.
Permission to reproduce images from Narrabeen RSL.
Before treatment
Areas of loss to the paint layer are evident at all four corners, where the surface was in contact with the frame glazing
After treatment
Retouching the areas of loss has unified the work and returned it to its original condition
