The Faculty of Arts and the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Melbourne have been named Australia's number one for the arts and humanities, and the social sciences, as announced in the latest 2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The University of Melbourne is now placed 15 in the world for arts and humanities (up two places since last year) and 8 for social sciences (up 6 places compared with 2017).

Professor Denise Varney, Dean of the Faculty of Arts said these excellent results are testimony to the hard work and dedicated scholarship of our team of teachers and researchers, who strive to deliver the best possible experience for our students.

“These results continue to strengthen the reputation of the University for impactful research and our ability to inspire students to develop the skills and attitudes essential for success in their future careers”.

The rankings are based upon surveys of academic and employer reputation featuring more than 100,000 respondents, as well as analysis of research citations and research impact.

The rankings aim to help prospective students identify the world’s leading schools in their chosen field.
