Diagnostic English Language Assessment (DELA)

DELA is designed to identify the English language needs of undergraduate and graduate international students

A core activity of the Language Testing Research Centre (LTRC) is the development, administration and validation of the University’s post-entry Diagnostic English Language Assessment (DELA). DELA is designed to identify the English language needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students, immediately following their entry to the University so that they can be guided towards appropriate language support as required.

The LTRC is responsible for the test administration and marking twice yearly for incoming students. The LTRC also receives funding for maintenance of the DELA test battery. New versions are produced each year with the assistance of the University of Auckland, which offers a trial.

Further information on how to access DELA, completion of DELA and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) is available on the Academic Skills website.
