Leap into the Modern: Dance Culture in Australia from the 1930s symposium
Dance practitioners, performers, academics, students and the public are invited to attend a one day symposium looking at the creative and historical context of modern dance in Australia from the 1930s to the present day.
Exploring the unique art of modern dance from its philosophies and ideologies to its defining aesthetic legacy, keynote presentations will be delivered from dance artists, local and international practitioners, academics and critics. Highlights include oral histories, recorded presentations, film and performance.
The symposium is convened by Professor Rachel Fensham, University of Melbourne and Dr Jordan Beth Vincent, Deakin University. The program gathers an interdisciplinary field of researchers who have made contributions to researching this history, as well as individuals who carry the living legacy of modern dance in either their own histories or ongoing work as artists and curators.

Registration: $40 general admission, $36 concession, $32 NGV members. Includes light refreshments. Lunch not provided.
