What is a HASS Data Commons?

Date and time

Thursday 22 April 2021, 12.30pm - 1.30pm

Description

Dr Steve McEachern
Director and Manager of the Australian Data Archive and Visiting Fellow from The Australian National University

Models of research in the humanities and social sciences are increasingly requiring more extensive sharing of research data with systems designed to retain and support collaboration on research projects. The form such open knowledge infrastructure takes is that of the data commons, a repository that combines data from public datasets using common entities that are mappable and can be translated into diverse research outputs.

In this seminar, Dr Steve McEachern presents an overview of two new Australian Research Data Commons projects – the CADRE platform (Coordinated Access for Data, Researchers and Environments) and the ANZLEAD Data partnerships project (Australian and New Zealand Leaders, Elections and Democracy). This seminar also explores the context surrounding national developments in social science infrastructure, the Academy of the Social Sciences “State of the Social Sciences” consultation, and the NCRIS/ARDC HASS roadmaps.).
