Introduction to R for Social Scientists and Humanists

In light of the emerging COVID-19 situation and continuing policy statements from the State and Federal Government, the University is adopting a series of changes to reduce rates of infection in the community. The health and wellbeing of our community is of paramount importance. Therefore, all University events have been postponed or cancelled from midnight, Tuesday 17 March. This introductory workshop is designed to familiarise social science and humanities researchers with the R programming language environment. In an intensive two-hour session, we will go over the fundamentals of R programming, including data importing, wrangling, visualisation, and modelling. We will close out the session by exploring some of the most popular packages used by academic researchers (eg tidyverse and ggplot2).

By the end of this hands-on workshop, participants will have a sound understanding of basic R programming and an appreciation of all of the exciting possibilities it offers for their own research.

Requirements

Participants are encouraged to come to the workshop with both R Project and R Studio installed on their laptops. No previous coding is necessary.
