A conversation with
Daphne Daniels (Ngukurr)
Associate Professor Kate Senior (University of Newcastle)

Chaired by Dr Fran Edmonds, Research Project Lead, Living Archive of Aboriginal Art

Ngukurr is a small community in southeast Arnhem Land, located in the Gulf of Carpentaria on the Roper River. A 2019 McCoy project, conducted with Museums Victoria, is providing first-steps towards supporting Ngukurr residents to access knowledge about their cultural heritage in a range of ways, including digitally and in person, via engagement with material culture, photographs and additional information that resides in the museum’s collection.

In this talk long-term Ngukurr News editor Daphne Daniels and Kate Senior will discuss their considerations of the role of the Museum’s collection for the community and the newspaper as sites for preserving, archiving and telling stories that are significant to Ngukurr. This includes the community's long-term objective to access and learn more about Ngukurr materials and information that resides in other collections.
