The Possibility of Citizen Intelligence

For the last two years, the SWARM Project has been designing and testing a platform to improve the quality of reasoning in intelligence analysis. The research coincidentally discovered that there are many people outside intelligence organisations that are willing and able to conduct intelligence analysis. In this seminar Dr. Richard de Rozario discussed the ways citizens participate in intelligence analysis which was previously the domain of government and corporates.

Richard de Rozario is an information systems researcher and consultant, with a speciality in risk and intelligence and an interest in sociotechnical practices in general. Currently working on the architecture of collaborative intelligence analysis (the SWARM Project) and applied ontology in defence and intelligence, he previously performed scenario analysis and quantitative modelling of extreme operational risks, such as cybercrimes, money laundering, and pandemics. Richard studied computer information systems in the USA, holds a postgraduate diploma in Market Modelling, and completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne using applied ontology to analyse the practice of competitive intelligence.
