Death at the Dog Park (Glom Press, 2021) – Dr Radha O’Meara, Senior Lecturer and Eloise Grills

Overview

Death at the Dog Park is a graphic memoir created collaboratively by Radha O’Meara and Eloise Grills. This creative non-fiction story connects the real-life experiences of discovering a murdered corpse in a local suburban park and caring for a beloved pet in their decline towards death, using a combination of words and images painted in watercolour to come to terms with the disturbing attraction and repulsion of the deteriorating body. Drawing on Julia Kristeva’s conception of the ‘corporeal reality’ that threatens a breakdown of meaning (The Powers of Horror 1982), this book explores the challenges of addressing the abject through language and imagery. Death at the Dog Park will be risograph printed by Glom Press in 2021.
