How valid are domain experts' judgements of workplace communication? Implications for setting standards on the Occupational English Test (OET) Writing sub-test

Join us for Simon Davidson's PhD completion talk:

The study investigates and revises the minimum standards of the Occupational English Test’s (OET) Writing sub-test (a specific-purpose language (LSP) test for health professionals) via the process of ‘standard setting’. The thesis proposes a framework for validating these standards drawing on multiple sources of evidence. It concludes that domain experts (in this case doctors) can make defensible judgements about workplace communication.
