Portraits of a Girl in Her Bedroom (but you'd never know it) by Kali Shanthi Arumugam

A photographic series.

About this project: "She doesn't need a functioning economy! She doesn't rely on multinational airlines to get her where she wants to go! She doesn't abide by the rules of time and physics! Disheartened by my inability to see the world as I'd planned, I decided to take myself on a 5 star journey through time and space from the comfort of my own carpeted bedroom floor. Getting dressed all the way up with nowhere to go is my #selfcare. The photos were taken on my phone and edited using a free background remover app lol idk how to photoshop. Follow me on instagram (@kalishanthi), hopefully there'll be many more journeys to come  ;)"

About the artist: "I am an actor, musician and visual artist from Cape Town, South Africa. I’m currently doing a BA, hoping to major in linguistics! I’ve been in shows in both the Melbourne Fringe Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and throughout the rest of lockdown am hoping to begin production on a very special iso web-series! Watch this space! :)"

We asked, our artists answered: why does creativity matter now? "Honestly, without my creative pursuits during this trying time I would’ve gone absolutely mad. In saying that though, I’ve also found being creative right now extremely difficult. It’s a very stressful time to put pressure on yourself to create amazing art, but if you can let out at least some of that stress in a fun and meaningful way then I think its worth it."
