About the program
Arts Graduate Ambassadors are leaders within the Faculty of Arts.
The Faculty of Arts Graduate Ambassador program was established in 2013 and represents a unique way in which students can get involved in supporting the current graduate coursework student community.
What do Graduate Ambassadors do?
- Suggest ideas for how student life can be enhanced (liaising directly with key Faculty of Arts staff)
- Propose, develop, and run new initiatives and events for students
- Deliver peer-to-peer mentoring and support
- Contribute creatively to a range of promotions and communications
Why become an Ambassador?
- Enhance your leadership, communication, and collaboration skills

- Have an active role in shaping the Graduate student community
- Inspire other Arts students by leading initiatives and community building activities

What did the Graduate Ambassadors get up to in Semester 1, 2024?
- Public speaking at the Graduate Orientation events
- Answering questions and socializing with the commencing Graduate cohort

Programs and events our Graduate Ambassadors have been involved in over the years:
- Public speaking at Graduate Orientation events
- Facilitating or participating in a panel
- Participating in a focus group
- Volunteering at Open Day
- Designing or facilitating a special event based around a themed day or week (e.g. Pride Week, Employability Week, Mental Health Awareness Week)
- The Internships Q&A (a panel of former interns, industry experts, and work integrated learning staff)
- The Coursework Colloquium (a day-long graduate coursework student conference)
- Graduate Get Togethers (an annual program of themed meet-and-greets for current students)
- SWOT Vac Study Jam (a day of fully supported, catered group study prior to exams)
- Drop-in Mentoring (informal opportunities for current students to liaise with Ambassador mentors)
Professional development opportunities available to Graduate Ambassadors in the past:
- A "Performance Techniques for Online Confidence" workshop led by a trained actor and radio presenter, teaching student leaders techniques for excelling at online interaction, coordination of meetings, and participatory confidence
- A seminar on intersectionality in the graduate classroom and beyond led by the Faculty of Arts Teaching Innovation Team
- An immersive presentation on Wurundjeri history and culture led by local elder Uncle Bill Nicholson
- A Diversity and Inclusion panel focusing on resources and community support available for LGBTQIA+ and disabled students
- A workshop on professional event design and coordination led by the Faculty of Arts Engagement Team
- Mental Health first aid training
Participating in professional development activities as a Ambassador allows student leaders a great chance to bolster their professional skill set while completing a graduate course.

Applications for 2025 will open in November 2024.
How to get involved
Applicants must be:
- Currently enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis in a Faculty of Arts graduate coursework program (with at least one semester completed)
- Have at least 1 year remaining in their Course
- Able to act in a professional manner as a student representative of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Interested in building lasting connections between students, improving the overall graduate student experience, and providing mentoring and advising to peers
- A team player committed to carrying out roles and responsibilities as agreed, autonomously and/or as part of a group
- Actively invested in fostering the University's core values of respect, diversity, and inclusivity
Other useful skills include:
- Public speaking
- Social media know-how
- Event planning experience
- A thorough knowledge of your degree's structure and course planning requirements
