Indonesia Rising? (ASIA90018)

Apply now to participate in this online intensive subject, with participating staff and students from Universitas Indonesia in Jakarta, Indonesia.

This subject is normally taught in Indonesia as a University of Melbourne Overseas Subject with our partner institution Universitas Indonesia.

In 2020, due to international travel restrictions, the subject will still be taught online, coordinated jointly with the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at Universitas Indonesia, and involving students from both institutions.

The subject focuses on Indonesia’s changing position and role within the region and the international system. It involves a significant small-group discussion component, bringing Melbourne and UI students together.

The subject also features guest presentations by senior Indonesian government officials and DFAT representatives. Although we cannot travel to Jakarta this year, these features of the subject are retained in the online offering. Like the UMOS offering in regular years, the online offering will be jointly taught by Dr Dave McRae and Dr Richard Chauvel from the Asia Institute, and Dr Evi Fitriani and her academic colleagues at Universitas Indonesia.

The decision to proceed with this online offering follows the successful teaching of an online offering of the Parkville-based version of the subject in Semester One.

For more information and to apply online, visit the Indonesia Rising? (ASIA90018) website. Applications close 11:59pm, Thursday 16 July.
