The Melbourne-Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Dual Degree program
This Melbourne-TUFS dual degree program offers students the opportunity to explore interests in contemporary Japan by pursuing two BA degrees in the field of Japanese Studies at top schools in the Asia Pacific region.
Program overview
In September 2023, Japanese Studies program established a dual bachelor degree with Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS, 東京外国語大学). This dual degree is the first of its kind at the bachelor level in the Faculty of Arts.
Established in 1857 during the Tokugawa Shogunate as a Translation Bureau, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies has evolved into a specialist institution of higher learning, focusing on languages and international studies.
Our partner – The School of Japan Studies – is the first Japanese Studies department in Japan fully funded by the Japanese government.
Selected students will complete subjects in the Japanese Studies major for two years at Melbourne, and then move to Tokyo for another two years. Students study one of the concentrations – Japanese Society, Japanese Literature & Culture, Japanese Linguistics, or Japanese Pedagogy for graduation.
