Thesis
Language Regard of South Sulawesi Indonesian Speakers toward Arabic Loanwords in Indonesian
The research aims to investigate the language regards (encompassing language ideology and language attitude) of South Sulawesi Indonesian speakers toward Arabic loanwords in Indonesian. The research will also analyze how social factors (religious background, education level, age, gender, socioeconomic status, and where they grew up and live) interact with language regard. The research is mixed method research (MMR), which combines quantitative and qualitative methods. This thesis will focus on the Makassar, Sinjai, and Toraja areas of South Sulawesi. These three districts vary in ethnicity, religion, and socio-economic status. The sociolinguistic situation of South Sulawesi can be seen as representative of the diversity of Indonesia.
