Australian Institute of Art History Publication Grants 2020
The Australian Institute of Art History is supporting art historians by offering 3 grants of $1,000 to assist with publication costs.

Eligibility
The grants are intended to support the publication of journal articles already accepted by the publisher, and books, book chapters, and catalogues already under contract.
To be eligible for these publication grants you must be:
- An art historian (institutional or independent)
- An emerging art historian (PhD student or Early Career Researcher in Art History, i.e. PhD granted no earlier than 2014)
Funding may be requested for
- Specialised publication assistance (this can include compilation and/or annotation of bibliographies, transcription and translation, technical consultations, visual materials or copyediting, proofing and indexing of monographs or equivalent outputs);
- Permission fees and costs associated with securing copyright materials;
- Author costs associated with publication and presentation of research outputs like edited journals, exhibition catalogues outside of state galleries;
- Publishers’ subventions and Open Access contributions (such requests must explain why Open Access is necessary for this particular publication and what value publishing through this particular OA outlet would add to the dissemination of your research).
Selection criteria
Applicants will be considered based on the following criteria:
- Merit of publication project
- Track record and capacity of applicant
Recipients are required to
- Accept the award online within 7 working days
- Expend all funds within 12 months of receipt unless permission has been granted by the selection committee.
- Submit a final report to AIAH
- Explicitly acknowledge AIAH funding support in the final publication
Application process
Eligible applicants must submit:
- A one-page Curriculum Vitae (CV);
- Confirmation from press or publisher that the work has been accepted for publication;
- A description of 300-500 words outlining the details of the publication (lead author, publication title, description, publisher), timeline, the resources needed, and the importance of the publication;
- A budget and brief justification (one page);
- Names and contact details of two academic referees.
