The Asia Studies Trust Fund is committed to the enhancement of cultural understanding of the Asia region at the University of Melbourne.
The University has a long tradition of engagement with Asia and the Asia Institute in the Faculty of Arts is its key centre for studies in Asian languages and cultures. The Asia Institute is a teaching and research institute that brings together disciplinary and linguistic expertise on Asia and is responsible for teaching programs in Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese languages, as well as Asian and Islamic Studies. The Asia Institute’s key aim is to provide leadership in the study of the rich intellectual, political, cultural and religious traditions of Asia.
The research strengths of the Institute are broad and include anthropology, economics, history, languages, politics and the study of religion. Staff are called upon regularly by national media to provide expert opinions on a range of contemporary and historical issues. The Asia Institute also has an exciting annual calendar of visiting scholars, annual conferences and cultural exchange programs. Its alumni are active in government, business and media, both nationally and internationally, and close involvement with the broader community is further demonstrated by its hosting of the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies and the National Centre for Contemporary Islamic Studies. The Asia Studies Trust Fund is a commitment to increasing knowledge of the intellectual, cultural, political and religious traditions of the Asian region. By donating to this trust you are helping enhance Australia/Asia relations and collaborative projects.
