Where a student is undertaking an internship opportunity for course credit which is approved by the University, it can be lawfully unpaid under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). Whilst there is no expectation of student reimbursement, in some circumstances organisations choose to pay a stipend to cover students’ expenses. Organisations which are interested in offering a stipend or allowance to students on placement are encouraged to contact the Faculty to discuss arrangements.

As internships and projects are undertaken as part of a subject there are specific periods in which these subjects run. However, we encourage you to contact the team to explore your options.

Students who take part in an approved placement will be covered by the University’s insurance for the duration of that placement. This includes Public liability, Professional Indemnity, and Personal Accident coverage. Host organisations can receive copies of the certificate of currencies upon request. In addition to the University’s insurance policies, the University requires a host organisation to take out and maintain Public Liability insurance cover.
