Conservation Student Resources on CANVAS
Up to date subject information and notification of events
After students enrol in any subject, you will obtain automatic access to our Canvas online learning system titled ‘COM_000184 Conservation student resources’. This is a community that all conservation students have access to. Here we post Grimwade Centre procedures, our COVIDSafe plan, up to date information and student or other events. Make sure you log onto this regularly and set up your notifications to receive announcements via your student email (see Can I customise my Canvas notifications?)

Will there be an orientation session?
In 2022, a local induction session for semester 2 commencing students will be scheduled between 11-15 July and the session will be run via and on campus at 4.00pm - the session will also be recorded.

When do I start?
It is possible commence the Master of Cultural Materials Conservation full time in Semester 1/March or Semester 2/July. You’ll start:
- Semester 1 2022 with Conservation Professional Practices (CUMC90026) (Dual-Delivery: online and on campus delivery) commences on 28 February 2022, with a pre-teaching period on CANVAS that commences on Monday 7 February 2022 with our Director, Professor Robyn Sloggett, OR
- Semester 2 2022 with Cultural Materials Conservation Science (CUMC90033) (dual delivery: online lectures and on campus practicals) commences on Monday 18 July 2022, with a pre-teaching period on CANVAS that commences on Monday 27 June 2022 with Dr Petronella Nel.

How is the coursework delivered?
Subjects are delivered intensively with a:
- Pre-Teaching period: this includes independent study preparations for 3 weeks before the teaching begins. An induction seminar maybe scheduled then
- Teaching period: this includes real time teaching over 1 to 2 weeks
- Assessment period: this includes independent study to work on your subject assessments for 3 weeks after the teaching period
During the teaching period in 2022, we will run a mix of online and on campus delivery. This will include online lectures, online seminars (if possible) and on campus classes for practical sessions in groups.

- CUMC90033 Conservation Materials Science Practices (dual delivery: online & on campus)
- CUMC90032 Technical Examination (dual delivery: online & on campus)
- CUMC90031 Analytical Science (dual delivery: online & on campus)
- 3 subjects is a full time enrolment load. If you need to enrol in a 4th subject, please discuss this with the Discipline Chair but we prefer you to underload in SM2 2022 and then take up an elective subject later.
What subjects should I enroll in for semester one 2023?
If full time, then please enroll in these subjects

- CUCM90029 Preventive Conservation
- CUMC90027 Respect
- CUMC90028 Introduction to Conservation Treatment (Actions)
If part time, please enrol in Conservation Professional Practices (CUMC90026). This is a grounding subject for the Masters program and provides an important basis to locate your thinking in the program.
Student Pathways
Students undertaking the 200-point pathway will complete 100 points of compulsory subjects in their first year and can enrol full time or part time at the beginning or mid-year. In the first year you need to enrol in the compulsory units to ensure a smooth pathway through the Masters program and to meet the pre-requisites for your second year of study. It is in the second year that students will have the option to select 3-4 graduate elective units up to 50 points and select a topic for your minor thesis. You will hear more about this during the program.

What about the Chemistry Bridging Course?
If you have not completed chemistry to 25 points at university level, then we recommend you enrol in the one week Chemistry Bridging Course.
