English language testing for teacher registration in Australia
Informing an updated national approach to English language proficiency assessments for teacher registration.
2023-2024

This project aimed to inform the development of an updated national approach to English language proficiency assessments for the purpose of teacher registration. It evaluated the appropriacy of use of the two tests that are currently used in this context, the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and the ISLPR (International Second Language Ability Ratings test). A test evaluation model was drawn up to inform this study. This focusses on basic test quality of the two tests, communication with test users, the relevance of the tests to the domain of teaching, as well as the standards on the two tests currently used. The final report made recommendations to the teacher registration bodies.
