India Delegation 2024: Humanities and Social Sciences in a Changing World

As part of the University of Melbourne’s India Delegation 2024, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Jennifer Balint hosted the Humanities and Social Sciences in a Changing World roundtable on Monday 16 September.

Speakers from the Faculty and wider university included Professor Kate McGregor, Associate Dean International; Associate Professor Anthony Spires (Deputy Associate Dean International, China); Dr Pradeep Taneja (Deputy Associate Dean International, India); and Professor Sara Wills, Pro Vice-Chancellor Engagement and Deputy Dean (External Relations).

Joined by scholars and PhD students from key Arts partner universities Ashoka University, OP Jindal, Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University, the panellists discussed how scholars from the humanities and social science disciplines are responding to, and aiming to shape, our changing world.

Topics covered included the importance of the public humanities, addressing the climate crisis, decolonising knowledge, mediating geo-political tensions and combatting rising gender injustice.
