Elizabeth and James Tatoulis PhD Scholarship in Classics

This scholarship is offered to students who are enrolling in the Doctor of Philosophy - Arts in the fields of Ancient Greek and/or Latin, including the history, culture, literature and law of Ancient Greece and Rome.

Benefits

$40,000 per year for the first 3 years of a full-time PhD candidature, and, with the approval of an extension, of up to 6 months paid at the Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarships (RTP) rate of that year. Recipients are entitled to the same benefits as the RTP, subject to the terms and conditions outlined here.

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

• meet the entry requirements for and be enrolling in a Doctor of Philosophy - Arts (DR-PHILART) in the field of Classics; and,
• have achieved a minimum weighted average mark of 75% in the final year subjects, or University of Melbourne equivalent, with a minimum result of 80% for the research component.

Selection criteria

The scholarship will be offered to the student ranked highest in the relevant field of study in the PhD application process, based on their application, prior academic performance and whether the applicant has the skills, experience and aptitude required to carry out the proposed PhD, as demonstrated by the PhD research proposal.

Requirements

Successful applicants are required to :

• accept the award online within 21 days; and,
• provide a short report at the end of each calendar year for the duration of your enrolment and at the end of your PhD candidature.

Established with a generous gift from Professor James and Mrs Elizabeth Tatoulis, the Elizabeth and James Tatoulis PhD Scholarship in Classics, rooted in the Classics Trust Fund established in 2013, aims to enhance the study of classics within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne. The gift focuses on promoting interest, education, and research in Ancient Greek and Latin.
