About
The Prue Torney Memorial Prize supports female-identifying graduate research students enrolled in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies undertaking travel to Asia for the purpose of their research.

Benefits
Up to $4,000 is available and only one award will be offered from this amount. Award payments will be made as a single lump-sum.
The Ian Robertson Travel Prize will also be awarded to a successful recipient of the Prue Torney Memorial Prize.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this prize, you must:
- be female-identifying;
- be enrolled in a graduate research degree in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies; and,
- be planning to undertake travel to Asia.
Selection criteria
The prize will be awarded to the applicant who makes the most compelling case for support by demonstrating:
- the relevance of overseas travel to Asia to their intended research;
- the quality and feasibility of the proposed program of research in Asia;
- academic merit; and,
- the skills, experience and aptitude required to carry out the proposed project as evidenced by the application.
Conditions
Recipients are required to:
- accept the award online within 21 days;
- submit the relevant travel documents; and,
- submit a report within two months of returning from travel.
Outcome
Applicants are advised of the outcome via email within 8-10 weeks.
Application process
Eligible applicants must complete the online application form, including:
- details of your proposed program of research overseas;
- a summary of your proposed program of research in Asia;
- a 300-500 word statement outlining how the scholarship would positively impact your life and assist with your research, and how pursuing research overseas in Asia is important to your academic work;
- an indicative budget;
- at least one academic reference;
- a current statement of results; and,
- any other information to support the application that may assist the committee in making its decision.

About the donors
Professor Susan Magarey AM, FASSA established a postgraduate travelling scholarship in Asian Studies, in the name of the late Prue Torney who was a staff member in the School of Historical Studies before her death on 28 April 2006.
