The Richard Gunter Scholarships support students studying English and French, and those who want to travel to pursue study or research in these areas.

Benefits

Up to $50,000 is available and several awards may be offered from this amount. Award payments will be made as a single lump-sum.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • be enrolled in an English and Theatre Studies course or a French Studies course in the Faculty of Arts, at any study level; and,
  • require support for travel or a research project directly related to your degree.

Selection criteria

The scholarships will be awarded to the applicants who makes the most compelling case for support by demonstrating:

  • the statement outlining the positive impact of the scholarships and proposed activities;
  • the quality and feasibility of the proposed program of study or research project;
  • the relevance of any travel to their intended research, if using the scholarship for travel;
  • academic merit; and,
  • the skills, experience and aptitude required to carry out the proposed project as evidenced by the application.

Conditions

Recipients are required to:

  • accept the award online within 21 days;
  • submit the relevant travel documents if using the scholarship for travel; and,
  • submit a final report.

Outcome

Applicants are advised of the outcome via email within 8-10 weeks.

Application process

Eligible applicants must complete the online application form, including:

  • details of your proposed travel program, if relevant;
  • a summary of your proposed travel program, if relevant;
  • a 300-500 word statement outlining how the scholarship would positively impact your life and assist with your academic work, with reference to the importance of English or French to your studies;
  • an indicative budget;
  • at least one academic reference;
  • a current statement of results; and,
  • any other information which may assist the committee in making its decision.
