Speculative Ethics: Science Fiction and the End(urance) of Worlds

At the end of a world, its supernova is rendered brilliant across the night sky. What might we glimpse speculating upon the end of our world(s)? This project looks to science fiction (SF) for possible answers, with a particular emphasis on contemporary narratives of environmental catastrophe and cultural futurity. Examining SF that rehearses these anxieties, this thesis asks how we might understand ourselves in relation to each other and the more-than-human, and how our worlds are composed by fleeting allegiances and deeper obligations.
