Kingdom of Ends: Geophilosophy and the Ecology of the State

This thesis advances an anarchist reading of Deleuze and Guattari’s geophilosophy which uncovers the links between climate collapse, anthropocentrism, and the state. It will be argued that the state is a form of strata which articulates the relationship between humanity and the Earth according to an immanent logic of hierarchy. Furthermore, it will be argued that this articulation of state power renders the multitudes of the Earth legible according to the logic of the state and reproduces the conditions necessary for the exploitation and degradation of the Earth by capitalism. Utilising the methodology of geophilosophy, this thesis identifies potential departures from state-thinking and to gestures towards alternative and prefigurative political practices.
