Constructing Social Hierarchy

Social hierarchies often arise as unintended outcomes of the actions of multiple agents. This ARC-funded project aims to integrate recent developments in the philosophy of mind, language, emotion and action to better understand how social hierarchies are created and maintained.

The project also looks at possible remedies to unfair social hierarchies, with a special focus on race and gender.

It involves a close collaboration between researchers at Melbourne Institute of Technology (Sally Haslanger) and in the Philosophy discipline at the University of Melbourne (Karen Jones, Greg Restall, Francois Schroeter and Laura Schroeter).
