Crossing the Border: How Do NGOs Campaign for Refugee Rights in Italy?

This is the first Public Lecture to be held at the University of Bologna. Taking as a starting point the potential of video for advocacy purposes, as well as a postcolonial approach, this Public Lecture explores how NGOs campaign for refugee rights has been rising and developing in the Italian context. How do they choose the topic? How do they represent it?

The panelists – Dr Nina Hall (Johns Hopkins University), Fiori Berhane (Brown University), Dr Sara Creta (Italian multimedia journalist) and Associate Professor Pierluigi MusarĂ² (University of Bologna) – try to answer and move beyond these questions by focusing on how communicative capacity simultaneously influences visibility and self-expression in this Mediterranean country.
