Date and Time: 27 April, 9am - 11am (CEST)/5pm - 7pm (AEST)

Zoom link: https://gu-se.zoom.us/j/67082224481

This workshop co-arranged by the CONREP network, Université de Genève and Göteborgs Universitet

Convenors: Sandra Lavenex (Université de Genève) and Gregor Noll (Göteborgs universitet)

This workshop examines the future scenario of refugee externalisation under the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum. It examines how this Pact would impact or fundamentally change the existing institutional and legal framework in the EU if it was fully implemented. Would the Greek islands be the new model for asylum processing? What would the implications and consequences be for third countries of transit in North Africa and beyond? What kind of protection architecture would we get and what loss of rights protection would the EU incur?

Presenters:

Paula Hoffmeyer-Zlotnik (Université de Genève): The Use of Trade Agreements for Migration Control

Lukasz Dziedzic (Universiteit van Amsterdam): Solidarity and the Pact

Josephine Liebl (ECRE): The Pact and EU Borders

Florian Trauner (Vrije Universiteit Brussel): EU Return Sponsoships – High Stakes, Low Gains?

Commentator:

Rosemary Byrne, NYU Abu Dhabi
